Hi, I'm Uzi. He/him/they/them. I doodle, sketch, imagine other worlds, and honestly have no idea what I'm doing. Expect random things on this blog.
I have an hourly queue from 7am to midnight NA Pacific Time that my reblogs normally go to.
for Scarlet and Violet’s gimmick, I would like to propose something called hattenizing. When used in battle, Pokemon gain a special “hattenized” form which is just their regular form but with a sick hat to wear. this changes absolutely nothing and is wholly pointless. I will not be taking questions
When water hits flowing lava it turns to cobblestone. Its only obsidian when it touches a source block, which clearly lava pouring out of a soda machine would not be. NEVER fuck with real Minecraft fans you fake gamer
I get different versions of the link depending where I click on a post:
ALT
(If you’re on your phone browser, make sure to click and HOLD #2 and select ‘copy link’–clicking through on mobile redirects me to the new style.)
I tend to edit urls to do quick tag searches and such and you can’t do that with the first url, which is why I noticed, but I’ve since noticed some other issues.
For example, if I post the new style link in discord it will embed a picture rather than the post’s video (forcing people to click through). The second, older url still properly embeds the video on discord.
ALT
ALT
And of course, the reason the new url wants to make you click through is tumblr is also using it to pressure people to sign up with tumblr.
Which becomes an issue when you’re sharing a link with people who don’t use tumblr, or, say, on discord, where anyone using the app’s native browser is going to appear as not logged in.
Going to the first link when logged out and scrolling down quickly hits this wall:
ALT
This blocks the whole blog, does not scroll, and cannot be opted out of. (Also adds this to the url:)
ALT
On the other hand, clicking the orginal form of the URL and scrolling down only triggers the older, less intrusive “wanna try the tumblr app” prompt on mobile browser:
ALT
And the “wanna sign up” prompt on PC browser:
ALT
These appear only on a small part of the screen, still allow scrolling, and have an opt out option that banishes them making them INFINITELY MORE FUNCTIONAL AND LESS ANNOYING
tl;dr I think platforms increasingly gating their content behind log in prompts is extremely sketchy and a bad direction for the internet to go, and also if you’re sharing tumblr links it’s worth knowing which format will do u better
Reblogging again because I just realized that if I had this advice in high school I would’ve never made a tumblr account.
Also works for most of those news sites like WSJ or NYT that only let you read a little bit, or block adblockers. Also some disable the scroll bar but if you go to the right side of the console after hitting F12 and look for the CSS element “overflow” and change it from “hidden” to “visible” then you can continue scrolling for free. Might have to click around on different parts of the page to find it, but it should work.
There’s also a Firefox/Chrome extension called Behind The Overlay that does all that with one mouse click. Used it for years; what a time saver.
And if you encounter a true paywall, use Archive.Today to bypass it. Just paste the paywalled url into the blue “search archived snapshots” box near the bottom:
As sketchy as the oceangate submarine was… you can bet your ass every single one of musky’s endeavors would look just as sketchy if it wasn’t for the fact that he’s forced to work with government regulators.
Hell, most of his projects are this sketchy if you look a bit closer. For example: the tesla tunnels.
No fire suppression system, no emergency exits, no emergency lighting, no way for EMS to get through, no fucking nothing. I am pretty sure it’s not even big enough to open the car’s doors.
Or the Cybertruck that’s a deathtrap for both the people on the outside and the people on the inside because it utterly disregards the last 50 or so years of advancements in car safety technology such as crumple zones or safety glass
Or the tesla model 3 where you can’t even open the back doors without power. So if you’re in an accident and lose power… good luck getting your kids out of the back, especially when the huge battery is turning into a huge, unextinguishable flamethrower.
Or the fucking starship launchpad that was utterly destroyed by the rocket and threw huge concrete chunks and other debris around for miles… which, incidentally, also destroyed the rocket.
That’s what all these self-proclaimed Silicon Valley tech bro geniuses are like.
They all think they know better than everyone else, and that rules or consequences don’t apply to them, and they see safety as little more than an afterthought.
It’s why Ai and social media algorithms are used sooooo ethically. It’s why amazon and facebook try to find out everything about you and happily sell that data with no disregard for what it could be used for.
It’s about damn time one of these CEO dipshits got killed by their own dipshitery, I just wish it had been musk or bezos instead…
